Adele on her dream remix with Drake, breaking Taylor Swift’s record and the idol who made her cry ‘floods’ of tears
Adele may have her hands full being a mom and releasing “25,” one of the most highly-anticipated albums of the year, but that hasn’t kept her from channeling her inner Drake and practicing her “Hotline Bling” dance moves.
"I had a drink like three weeks ago [with] my best friends, in fact it was to celebrate ‘Hello’,” she tells etalk’s Danielle Graham in a North American exclusive interview. “And I was off my face because I don't really drink anymore, and they've got video of me dancing to it on a coffee table as well.”
That’s right, while it seems the whole world is enamoured with Adele and her new album, the 27-year-old British singer says she’s been pretty preoccupied herself with the well-known rapper from the 6.
“I really want us to do an official remix. I love Drake. I love Drake so much,” she says, when asked about the abundance of memes about her hit “Hello” and his “Hotline Bling.”
“I even got the coat that's in the video, I got it delivered the other day, I ordered it. The red one.”
The appetite for an Adele-Drake remix may be second only to her latest collection of songs. The release of first single “Hello” last month quickly broke Billboard records, and overtook Taylor Swift for most Vevo streams in a single day.
“I love Taylor Swift, and when I found out I was like that's pretty epic,” Adele says. “Not beating her but just being on the same level as her was fantastic, because I think she's wonderful.”
In fact, Adele’s found herself “on the same level” as some pretty impressive talent lately, collaborating with acclaimed Canadian director Xavier Dolan for the emotional “Hello” music video.
"He's very involved,” she says of the director, who she was drawn to after seeing his 2009 film “I Killed My Mother.”
“In that crying scene he was on the floor with me, totally getting into the same mood as me. I don't know if anyone else could even bring out the confidence in me to attempt to act apart from him."
But even someone working in such company admits to having her fangirl moments.
“I've lost my cool over quite a few people,” Adele says. “Stevie Nicks. That was just embarrassing about how I reacted. Like floods [of tears], like a river.”
She also names Bette Midler as an idol she’s felt “beyond blessed” to meet.
“She's f**king amazing,” she says. “It felt like I was watching a living legend and there aren't many left… Everything that comes out of her mouth is just gold.”
Speaking of gold -- anyone hoping to see that aforementioned video of Adele’s tipsy “Hotline Bling” dance party needn’t search the internet anytime soon.
Her friends aren’t the type to leak such material… she thinks.
"They better not!” she laughs. “My best friends are good."
